Montenegro (in English)

Montenegro is one of those several ex-Jugoslavian countries and it has a beautiful location between Croatia and Albania. There are lots of sun holiday destination by the Adriatic Sea and lots of beautiful mountain scenery in the inlands. We spent a week in Budva by the sea and enjoyed Jugoslavian scenery, sun and giant-sized food portions. The old city of Budva is called Stari Grad and close to it there are lots of nice beaches, in the middle of the town. You can also by bus reach the gate of the picturesque island of Sveti Stefan, which is isolated for celebrities and rich hotel guests.

Close to Budva is the city of Kotor, which resembles of Dubrovnik, close to the other side of the Croatian border. Kotor is like Dubrovnik a town, where almost all houses are chalked white and have orange-red brick roofs. The old city is surrounded by a city wall and cannot be reached by car. The city is situated by a steep mountain, which can be climbed on 1300 sweaty steps to the top where the monastery ruins of St Johns are.

In Budva I had the largest food portion ever brought in front of me! I ordered a grill mix (for one person!) and when it arrived, it contained 2 grilled lamb chops, 2 pork cutlets, 1 beef steak, 1 sausage, a small salad and French fries, which I had made the mistake to order as a side. During our week I saw that portions like that are common among the locals. The locals are usually large-sized and it is no wonder that Montenegro is successful in basketball. We also heard lots of Russian on the beaches and the reason is probably that Montenegro has been a close part of Serbia, which in turn has close relations to Russia. 

We also tasted soup with fish from the Adriatic Sea, burek meat pies and local Prosek fruit wine. Since Montenegro is culturally close to Italy, we also tasted for example pasta with mouth-watering air-dried ham and melons.
