Southern Germany is a beautiful region and worth an article of its own. The German Alps mount above functional cities and farm houses. All timetables are prompt, people are friendly and it is easy to dare going on a stroll in the Alps. Especially worth mentioning are Lake Constance with its own beautiful town Lindau, the Schwarzwald forest region in the west and the band of beautiful small towns called Romantische Strasse, the romantic road. This road alone makes renting a car in Bavaria worthwile and do not forget to visit its most romantic town, Rothenburg ob der Tauber.

Bavaria is perhaps most wellknown for its Cinderella castle Neuschwanstein, which has a more famous copy in Disneyworld. Of course there are less known sights. I myself was impressed by the Partnachklamm rapids near Garmisch-Partenkirchen. There you may walk along narrow mountain walls, with rapids of crystal clear mountain water by your other side.

One of my Bavarian trips was to Munich during Oktoberfest. When you have a one-liter Maz beer pint in front of you, it is obvious that you need something to eat as well. They serve half a chicken (händl) or pig hoofs (schweinehaxe). For those who want something more common to eat, there are fleischpflanze, a kind of hamburger. When you have eaten and drunk plenty, you are expected to continue to a fun park and the more upside down you are in the vehicles and merry-go-rounds, the more your belly is bound to cry for help. Or Hilfe in German.

During Oktoberfest you see those large-sized German women waiters, who carry lots of pints either with their hands or with other body parts. These pints are truly one liter of thick glass and extremely heavy, with or without contents. During late hours, I asked for permission to help with carrying those pints and there is no doubt that it is heavy duty. It is obvious that these women have biceps twice as large as mine.
